Description
The ILCF is situated in Lyon’s heart, the second
largest city in France. The surrounding Rhône-Alpes
region, which is not far from Switzerland, offers a
varied landscape: mountains, snowfields, plains. The
region is important for its agricultural production:
cheese, wine, poultry, as it is for its industry : silk,
chemical, medicine, electronics, automobile, iron and
steel. There are remarkable monuments as well as cultural
and artistic, ranging from gastronomy to the birth of
cinema. The ILCF was created in 1948 by the College
of Liberal Arts at the Catholic University of Lyon.
The Institute has connections with numerous institutes
and universities in France and abroad
Lodging
The University offers an accommodation service that
help students to seek lodgings. The service proposes
two possibilities: student residences or independent
apartment. Young people who have even a slight notion
of French and who are planning to stay an year have
the possibility of being welcomed in French families
homes as an au pair.
Academics
The courses are designed for people who would like to
begin learning French or would like to improve their
knowledge of the language as well as the French culture.
Classes are structured in such a way that students must
actively participate. Organized in accordance with the
European Credit Transfer System (ECTS), study leads
to various certificates and diplomas awarded by the
University which can be transferred into equivalent
credits or units at universities, colleges or institutes
abroad. The students can also complete their studies
in other institutes of the University. Programs are
geared towards enabling the student to integrate easily
and to assume a better working knowledge of the French
language.
Activities
Cultural events and activities are organized throughout
the year by both the ILCF (guided tours, lectures, international
meals, meeting Lyonnaise families, exchange with French
students...) and the Student Federation of the University
(sports, cultural activities, ski trips...).
